When it comes to puddings, it is often tricky to find something which is homely and warming without being too sweet. One of mine and my Dad’s favorites is a gluten free version of the traditional Apple Crumble. The great thing about an Apple Crumble is that it is perfect any occasion, whether it be a birthday celebration or Christmas meal a gluten free Apple crumble is my trusty go too pudding.
Prep Time – 15-20 Minutes
Cooking Time 25-30 Minutes
Serves approximately: 4
Ingredients:
- 3 to 4 large cooking apples (Bramley cooking apples are my favorite)
- 100g table sugar
- 75g salted butter
- 150g plain gluten free flour (I use Doves Farm Brand)
Method:
Top tip: As a winter warmer serve with hot custard or cream. Serve with ice cream for a summer treat.
- Preheat the oven at 180 degrees
- Half fill a saucepan with water
- Peel, core and chop your apples. Once they are chopped into quarters put them in the water to stop them from turning brown
- Once you have prepared all of the apples tip away all but 2 table spoons of the water
- Add 50g of sugar to the apples and let them stew on a low to medium heat
- Once the apples are soft and break easy by pushing them with a spoon pour them in to a oven proof dish
- Sieve the flour in to a bowl and mix in 100g of sugar
- Chop the butter in to squares and add it too the flour and sugar
- Using your hands create breadcrumbs
- Spread the bread crumbs evenly over the apples
- Place the crumble in the oven for 30 mins, once ready the crumble will be a light golden colour
- Once cooked serve immediately while hot
This crumble can be prepared in-advance and cooked in the oven for 30 before needing to be served. If you are planning to prep this crumble in advance just stop at step 10 and store your crumble in the fridge once it has cooled.
